Meet the New Girls

Its been such a busy week that despite my best intentions I haven’t found the time to sit down and catch up with my writing – I’ve only just about managed to keep up with my Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts!

I sat down earlier tonight to write and my internet had crashed! I finally managed to resolve that so here I am, dog walked, PJ’s on, cup of tea made, determined to get this post written and published before I go to bed.

After much deliberation, all the new girls now have names and as they’re written in the ‘official little book’ there’s no going back now!

I wanted to update you on the new additions to the family – it gives me great pleasure to officially introduce Annie, Gracie Mouse and Stevie (aka ‘The hen that’s not being called Stevie’). My three new girls from the BHWT Lancs Rescue have been with me for a week now and they are all absolutely gorgeous.

Annie was the first poorly girl I found, she was on the floor at the front of the cage not moving and initially we weren’t even sure whether she was alive or not.

Gracie Mouse was carried out with three other girls but separated as her wings had almost no feathers on and she was bald in other places on her body too.

Finally there was Stevie. My husband chose her after she tried to evade rescue! Stevie is a tiny hen – the smallest I think I’ve ever had and she’s missing a few feathers too.

These girls are my first additions to the flock since November 2015. It’s always lovely to rehome more hens and see them experiencing all the new things that their retirement brings.

It’s also a great opportunity for me to share their journeys with you as they make the change from life in a cage to life in the outside world. Getting new girls is a great reminder for me too – Camilla, Rosie, Ruby and Ellie my existing girls all look amazing, they’re plump and look absolutely beautiful with their glossy feathers but with the exception of Ruby, they weren’t always like this. There’s a huge difference between the new girls and the old girls and this transformation is because of something very simple – the conditions that they live in.

With their new found freedom and a bit of extra TLC it won’t take long for Annie, Gracie Mouse and Stevie to start on the road to recovery and blossom into happy, healthy hens.

One thing that’s already clear is that like my ‘old’ girls, each of the new girls have very different personalities emerging and because of this and because each of their stories will be different, they all deserve their own mini-blog posts. I’m amazed at how many pictures and videos I’ve taken of the three of them since last Saturday!

I don’t want the ‘old’ girls to get jealous so in-between the updates on the newbies, it’s only fair that I introduce you properly to the other gorgeous hens in my flock with mini-blogs of their own.

If you don’t want to miss any of this then why not subscribe to my blog? I’ve added more pictures to my Instagram and Facebook pages and have been Tweeting away so if you want to see what’s new, then you know where to find me!
